Being Tourists

After leaving Pittsburg Mo. we did a short drive to a free campground just outside of Osborn Mo. The Pony Express Lake Conservation area is made up of 740 acres of old fields and over 1000 acres of grasslands.

This was a peaceful stop over before some site seeing in nearby St. Joseph Mo.

Our 1st stop in St. Joseph was the home of Jessie James when he was shot by the Ford brothers. There was much to read about the James boys and all the history that went with them. I will leave that endeavor to you and the internet. Below are a few pictures that may interest you.

Our next and final stop in St. Joseph was the Pony Express Museum.

The highlight of this stop was the 16 minute film that told about how the Pony Express came into existence and as Paul Harvey would say "the rest of the story". Unfortunately, I did not get a single picture inside the museum. The exhibit consisted of mostly pictures (artists renderings) and story lines , which don't bode well to photography. There was a lot to see and read and it was amazing that so much history was made by a undertaking that operated for only about a year.

Still searching for cooler weather, we set the compass to a north by northwest heading and off. Still C & L On The Road, see you next time.
