Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park was the second destination in our quest to visit all the National Parks in Utah. Being only about 25 miles from our campsite, the northern, Island in the Sky area is where we spent the morning. In typical Moab fashion, there is Jeep access into the canyon as well as the hiking and biking trails found in all national parks.

The picture at the left shows the Shafer Trail winding down the canyon wall. This road provides access to Shafer canyon. High clearance four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for this adventure.

At the right, you can see the road traversing the bottom of Shafer Canyon.

This photo was taken from the Grand View Point overlook. The Colorado River is down there, but the Ranger says it can't be seen from the rim.

I would have enjoyed a trip into the canyon, unfortunately, we don't have a high clearance four-wheel drive vehicle. This was another of those "forty years ago" moments.

That's all I have for this post, so we continue the quest. See you next time from our next Utah destination.
