We spent three and half days running hard (for us) seeking cooler weather. Those nights were spent at small truck stops in Georgia, Mississippi, and Missouri. It wasn't cool but it was time to slow down and rest.
Enter Pomme de Terre Lake in central Missouri. As you can see in the photo to right, this is a huge recreation area. The campground we stayed in for 2 days is located near Pittsburg Mo. and is located by the finger pointing to the map. The lake is administered by the Corps of Engineers. There are several campgrounds located around the lake, This one is free to stay in for up to 14 days. There are no hook ups here but there is water and and a pit toilet. Dump stations are located at the pay campgrounds.
The grounds are well maintained and there are tables and fire rings although there are no designated sites. The campground host told me I could park wherever I wanted and if there was no fire ring I was free to build one anyway.
We were surprised to find a playground area at a free campground.
And what would a campground on a lake be without a beach. The water was warm but refreshing after a still not cool day.
The time here was welcome and restful but cooler climes still beckon. So on the third morning we packed it up, found some groceries, and dump station and pointed the truck in a northerly direction.
See you next time.
Still C & L On The Road.
