Neuse River Recreation Area

After leaving Virginia Beach, we stopped for a night (that turned into 2) at Flanners Beach Campground which is located in the Neuse River Recreation area which is located in the Croatan National Forest. Confused yet?
The closest town is New Bern NC., if that helps. This is a pay campground but there are boondocking opportunities in the National Forest. The criteria we have established (at this point anyway) for stopping at pay campgrounds is when Downsized (our 5th wheel) has to go, we pay. At $10 a pop for a dump station, a campground makes sense.

The price of a campsite at Flanners is $12.00 with an additional $5.00 added to the 22 sites that have electricity. A senior pass gets the holder half off for the site not the electricity. So $6.00 instead of $12.00, (now you understand the 2 night stay) ah the joys of growing old.

This campground is situated on a knoll overlooking the Neuse River which when we were there was as warm as bathwater and wading depth for a long way.

Yes those are people wading.

Some of the beach.

Located about 20 miles from the Atlantic and the North Carolina Aquarium, this Spot might make a good base camp for further explorations. All in all we enjoyed our stay here. We and Downsized all got rested and ready for the next leg of the trip. That's all for now. Until next time we are C & L on the road.
