After spending four days in the primitive site at Honey Hill, we needed a place to dump the black tank and replenish our fresh water supply. Roughly 15 miles south of our location was another National Forest campground called Buck Hall Recreation Area.
So named after the old Buck Hall plantation that once occupied this location. This is a pay campground with electricity and water at each RV site and a dump station on location. There are also 4 or 5 tent site at this campground. Camping fees are $15.00 for tent sites and $20.00 for RV sites. There is no extra charge for electricity. Our Senior pass landed us a 50% discount making our cost a very affordable $10.00 per day for the 2 day stay. There is also a shower house on site and I saw several people using it but we did not do so. The campground hosts during our stay were a very friendly couple from North Carolina and I can't find anything negative to say about them.
As compared to some RV parks I have seen, this campground is a 5 star. Large grassy sites with ample shade, concrete pads and roadways sitting right next to the intercoastal waterway. A beautiful campground indeed.
The intercoastal waterway, I am told was built during World War 2 to protect ships from U boats at sea. It is still used today as this photograph shows.
There are many of these Oak trees laden with Spanish moss in the campground and adjoining boat ramp and day use area.
The marsh across the waterway is home to Cape Romain National Wildlife Reserve.
This shot from our camp site shows the size of the campsites.
We spent most of the second day trekking to Mount Pleasant to do laundry, pick up prescriptions and groceries. We haven't been to a laundromat in years and were shocked at the price. Clara has taken to washing her unmentionables by hand.
With temperatures hovering in 100 degree range we are anxious to head north to cooler climes. The next couple of days will be spent doing just that. Not the old truck driver 600 mile days but traveling days non the less. I will get caught up on the writing when we find a resting place that is easier to live with.
Found it, now I'm caught up. We are still C & L On The Road.
